I have had the pleasure of working with Image Graphics & Design on books,
most recently SPARTAN SEASONS II: More Triumphs and Turmoil of Michigan State Sports.
In the 39 years in which I have had my hand in more than 400 books as publisher,
editor, or author, I have worked with many book designers and comp houses. None have been
more capable or enjoyable to work with than the good people of IGD. They are extremely
savvy about the gamut of type design, layout of photographs, captions and cutlines,
and graphic materials. Not only can they execute and even enhance the concept given to them,
they have the capability to generate original concepts. The cover design for SPARTAN SEASONS
II has received rave reviews and that is a tribute to the work of IGD.
Every bit as important as technical skill and capability are other factors in turning a
manuscript into a finished product ready for the book manufacturing process. I refer to the
old-fashioned virtues of dependability, attention to detail, quick response, and a
congenial, cooperative attitude. On all these measures, IGD scores high. My credo in
book-publishing is that it is very much a team effort that should be pleasant and
enjoyable for all parties. So it was a delight to work with IGD, which has the same
philosophy. They extended themselves to keep the project on schedule—if not ahead of
schedule—when we were tardy on our side in getting material to them. As a result, we
finished the book considerably in advance of our scheduled completion date, making the
marketing process much more manageable than is typical.
In other words, IGD knows books and they know how to create them. I look forward to
working with them again and recommend them without qualification to authors and book
publishers large or small.
